OYE IIPROJECT YOUTH (NASIBU) GRADUALLY GRABBED HORTICULTURE
AS NEW HOPES TO EXCEL IN LIFE.
Mr.Nasibu a son of Juma Sambo, staying at Doma Maharaka village aged about 25 years after completing Business Development Skills, Basic Life Skills, and Technical Skills; he was in a quest for business opportunities to excel in life which he chose for milk petty business whereby he used a small amount of profit he got from seasonal tomatoes cultivation as tart up capital. He decided to start milk petty business with focus of saving so that he can manage to go for irrigation tomatoes cultivation which require huge capital compared to seasonal farming he was conducting before which turned to low season after season due to climatic changes and thus low production that resulted to inadequate income. As he narrated, “After saving enough capital earned from milk petty business, I managed to rent a plot nearby water wale and water pump that’s facilitate irrigation activities thus managed to switch from seasonal farming to irrigation farming.”
Nasibu is now a very enthusiastic young farmer who has immense interest in practicing modern techniques of cultivation into horticulture field and he is willing to always remain with close contact to vendor placed in their respective areas through OYEII project for coaching and mentoring of the youths who are in horticulture field. He has now ¼ acre rented land which he cultivates tomatoes and expecting to fetch for good profit.
Before he tried seasonal farming which earned him low income and sometimes loss especially when there is no enough rain. He also tried to sell French fries (Chipsi) and proved failure because he had no business skills to run the business. Nasibu narrated that, “Ever since I joined OYE II project and equipped with BDS, BLS and Technical trainings skills, I am now earning profit of about 210,000 per
month fresh milk selling and expecting to get about 2,000,000 from ¼ acre profit per annum from irrigation cultivation compared to seasonal farming which was earning him about 500,000 profit per ¼ per annum.” This is because I currently know how to manage the business and I have been exposed to modern horticulture practices.
